The story of these Dust Bunnies begins at a local antiques market where I found a box of old unfinished quilt pieces - hundreds of tiny fabric scraps meticuously cut and hand-sewn together in rows. These little scraps are an amazing time capsule of American commercial textiles from the 1930's through the 1950's, with polka dots, stripes, floral and geometric patterns jumbled together with no apparent plan for the resulting color palette. I took inspiration not just from the fabrics themselves, but the overall "waste not want not" purpose of these old quilts, and found an opportunity to use some of my own scraps which were too small to use for much, but too big to part with. After no doubt being stored in an attic for decades, the quilted pieces came with their own discoloration and patina, and because I added some character of my own, these Bunnies have a little more fabric staining than usual.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed creating them! -- Amanda Louise Spayd
